Folio
1. Summary
Folio is a privacy-first lecture and voice recording app for iPhone. We designed Folio so your recordings and study material stay on your device. We do not operate servers that receive your lecture audio. Transcription and AI study features use Apple’s on-device frameworks (iOS 26 or later). We do not sell your personal information.
2. Information Folio processes
- Audio recordings you create, stored locally on your iPhone.
- Transcripts, summaries, flashcards, quizzes, course names, and related study data generated in the app.
- App settings (for example default title mode, optional iCloud sync preference, education referral codes).
- Folio Premium purchase status, handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment card details.
3. What we do not do
- We do not upload your lecture audio to our servers or to third-party transcription services.
- We do not use your recording content for advertising or sell it to data brokers.
- We do not run third-party analytics that read the text inside your recordings or transcripts.
4. On-device processing
When you record a lecture, Folio stores the audio file on your device. Transcription and study features (summaries, flashcards, quizzes) are processed using Apple’s on-device speech and intelligence technologies. Processing happens on your iPhone. A network connection may be required the first time speech models download from Apple.
5. Microphone permission
Folio requests access to your device microphone only to record audio you choose to capture. You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings. Without microphone access, recording is not available.
6. Optional iCloud sync
If you turn on iCloud sync in Folio settings, transcripts and study data may sync through your personal iCloud account via Apple’s CloudKit. Audio recordings are not uploaded. Sync is optional and controlled by you. Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy apply to data stored in iCloud.
7. Sharing and import
You may export or share study materials using the system share sheet. Folio supports importing .foliolecture packages shared by another Folio user; imported content is stored on your device. We do not receive imported files unless you choose to send them to us by email.
8. Purchases (Folio Premium)
Folio Premium is a one-time lifetime purchase offered through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Prices vary by App Store region (for example ₹299 in India or $2.99 in the United States). Apple processes payment and provides us with purchase entitlement status, not your full payment details. Use Restore purchases on a new device signed into the same Apple ID.
9. Data retention and deletion
Your recordings and study data remain on your device until you delete them in the app. Archived recordings are kept for 30 days in the Archive section, then removed automatically. Deleting the Folio app removes local app data subject to iOS behavior and any iCloud copies if sync was enabled.
10. Children
Folio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your rights and choices
Because Folio stores data on your device, you control it directly: delete recordings, archive or restore lectures, turn iCloud sync on or off, and revoke microphone access in iOS Settings. For App Store purchases, manage purchase history through your Apple ID settings.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of Folio after changes means you accept the updated policy.
